Japanese Rare Large Antique Bronze Temple "Futuku" Bell Complete Original Chime

Rare large Japanese bronze temple "Futaku" bell with original and complete hanging bronze cloud clapper , from Kyoto Temple. One of only two we have seen This bell is a rare treasure from Japan and an unusual find- an excellent candidate to accent your indoor or outdoor garden space. It is a superb antique bronze casting of a wonderful large-scale temple bell "Futaku" complete with its original double cloud form chime and clapper. This bell was sourced from an old Kyoto collection recently and was one of a just two examples of these rare bells de-accessioned by a Japanese collector. It dates to the Taisho period and displays a fine old handsome blue patina. It is sturdy and well caste. Complete. Only one It comes complete with its original cloud clapper- very unusual for bells with this combination, age, and fine quality. Positioined at the end of a temple roof "futuku" are seldom seen. These bells were likely commissioned by temple family patrons and donated as sacred gifts to temples and shrines on behalf of their family or in honor of a special family member. This bell possesses a beautiful original old patina which supports and highlights its generations old temple life. Dimensions: Large 24 inches tall from top of bell suspension loop to the bottom of the cloud clapper and clapper only is 13 inches wide and 6.5 inches high Tone: When gently struck it gives a distinctive ring and we will include a complimentary striker to enhance your immediate enjoyment. History of Japan's temple bells: In general Buddhist bells known as tsurigane (hanging bells) or great bells are large bells found in Buddhist temples throughout Japan, used to summon the monks to prayer.     Historical Bell- Immediately Useable First ever to be offered A genuine temple used de-accession 96 inch prayer bell with original wooden handled rope from a shrine in Nakamura Ward, Nagoya, Japan An extraordinary opportunity to acquire, collect, use and display the largest scale 18” temple bell of this kind we have ever seen in private hands- including its original wood and hemp rope pull- a Japanese authentic hand cast copper Shinto Suzu bell. The auspicious temple shrine from which this bell comes, was founded in 1156 to honor Ojintenno, who was the 15th emperor of Japan. It was commissioned in part by Minamoto no Tametomo, who was a famous Samurai, who is known as possibly being the first samurai to commit Seppuku. Its big 18" high and 12" diameter bell including a massive hand carved wooden pull handle measuring 17 inches in length shows patina from great age, dates to the late 19th century, and was formerly rung outside a Nagoya Temple great hall where it was enjoyed by members of Japan's local Shinto communities. This bell was authentically rung at this temple shrine. We will include the original 96 inch rope pull with massive 17 inch long hand carved wooden handle.
