Japanese Small Bronze Edo Buddhist Temple Shrine Buddha Statue Amulet Sculpture

About the Item

A gorgeous diminutive Japanese bronze temple shrine Buddha. The piece has a beautiful aged patina and a wonderful, surprisingly hefty feel to it when held in your hand. We believe the piece is from the Edo period but it could be older as it resembles a few similar pieces we have seen from the Azuchi–Momoyama period (16th century). The previous owner from whom we acquired it told us that the piece was brought to the United States in the 1940s by a US serviceman when he left occupied Japan and that he had to have it export stamped "Japan" on the base in order to take it with him. Would be a great addition to any Japanese artifacts/ Asian Buddha collection or eye-catching stand-alone accent piece when properly placed in about any setting.
