Large Bronze Statue of Bodhisattva on Double Lotus Throne

About the Item

The most beloved subject in the Mahayana Buddhism, Bodhisattva, the one whom driven by great compassion, delayed his/her own Buddhahood to help the others to attain enlightenment. Exemplified in this stunning statue, Bodhisattva is often depicted as a being bejeweled and elaborated robed and wearing a crown with Amitabha, a celestial Buddha, in the center. The Bodhisattva was seated on a double-lotus throne and hold the Karana mudra. This mudra is the gesture to ward off evil and to emanate energy to rid such obstacles as sickness or negative thoughts. This is a substantial piece with impressive size and amazing workmanship. It weights about 60lbs. Based on the casting and patina, it is likely from mid-late Qing Dynasty, circa 18-19th century.
