Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain Court Lady Candle Holders, Mid-20th Century
About the Item
A lovely pair of Chinese export porcelain candle holders in the form of court ladies holding lotus blossoms, mid 20th century, circa 1960's, China.
Modeled after 18th century Qianlong examples, these refined ladies are portrayed in a graceful stance, wearing beautifully draped voluminous robes painted with a dense floral design in the famille verte palette, with various shades of green, lavender and cream. The long fingers of their elegant hands holding up large lotus blossom vessels that serve as the candle holders. Their porcelain white faces surmounted by high chignons secured with a floral hairpin.
An apocryphal six character "Da Qing Dao Guang Nian Zhi" mark stamped in red ink to the undersides.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. One figure with a slight firing crack and associated glaze loss in the neck region. The other figure with a glaze pop to the interior of the lotus blossom. Both figures with surface dirt.

Chenrezig, a form of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion (known as Guan Yin or Kwan Yin in Chinese), sits in vajrasana upon a high double lotus pedestal.
