About the Item
Used across the shoulders to tote pails of water and grain, this 19th-century burden bar transcends its functional origins as a striking sculptural object. Also known as a carrying pole or yoke, the burden bar has an elongated form with gently tapered ends, finished with a soft, darkened patina and the original brass fittings at either end. The yoke has been elegantly presented on custom steel mount for display as a sculptural object.
