About the Item

Spain (Possibly Seville), Early 17th Century “NO 8 DO” means “no me ha dejado”, Spanish for “(it) has not left me.” In this case, the “it” is referring to Seville. What appears to be the number eight in the middle is actually a “madeja” or a skein (tangle, knot) of yarn that also looks like a vertical “infinity” sign. It is a form of symbolic patriotism. Double-headed eagle, a powerful and ancient symbol that appears in many cultures and as early as the Bronze Age. In the context of the Roman and Byzantine empire, the two heads represent looking towards the East and West, signifying complete control and unification between the two parts of the empire.
