About the Item
A most elegant pair of French 18th century Louis XVI period ormolu fireplace Chenets/andirons. Each Chenet is raised by a square base with a wrap around acanthus leaf border. At the center are three charming and richly chased faces of Zephyrus, the god of wind, below a most decorative reeded band. The urn shaped bodies above display fine foliate socle supports below the reeded bodies with hammered backgrounds. At each side are lovely elegantly scrolled handles also decorated with Zephyrus and connected by fine wrap around Coeur de Rai bands and reeded bands above the lightly curved necks. All original gilt throughout.
