About the Item

Early 19th c., a beautifully ornate antique picture frame. The frame is made of wood, gilded with a rich, golden finish that exudes luxury and sophistication. The primary color is a warm, gilded gold, accented with deep red velvet panels that run along the inner edges of the frame. The contrast between the gold and red adds a striking visual effect. The outermost edge of the frame features intricate carvings that resemble leaves and floral patterns, giving the frame an elaborate and classic look. These details are hand-carved, contributing to the antique feel of the piece. Just inside the outer carvings, there is a row of small, rounded bead-like decorations that follow the entire perimeter of the frame. This beaded detail adds texture and depth to the overall design. Each corner of the frame is adorned with ornate decorations, which appear to be floral motifs. These decorations are raised and intricately detailed, made to catch light and draw attention to the frame’s craftsmanship. The combination of gilded gold with bold red accents is typical of the lavish aesthetic popular in the Empire period. This frame would have been used to display a painting or portrait, likely in a grand or formal setting. The elaborate design suggests that it was intended to showcase something of great importance or value. Dimensions: 24.5"w x 30.25"h x 2.75"d Condition: Good, red velvet heavily worn, minor gilding rubs, minor loss and chips around side edges of frame, lacking wire for hanging. Shows well.
