Monumental Well in the Louis XIV Style, 20th Century

About the Item

This monumental stone fountain canopy was made identical to the fountain of the Chateau of the Black Prince in Lormont. Dated from the 20th century, four columns with grooved barrels crowned with ionic capitals with flowers and stylized foliage are supporting the imperial stone roof which is carved as an imitation of the tortoiseshell slate. A domed frieze carved with foliage is surmounted by a denticulated cornice and a frieze decorated with Greek waves above. The castle owes its name to Edward of Woodstock, better known under the nickname of "Edward the Black Prince", who lived there in the middle of the fourteenth century. After suffering greatly during the events of the French Revolution, the Chateau of Lormont was restored between 1876 and 1880 by the architect Alphonse Blaquière. The fountain in the park was built at that time.

Stone Well from the Louis XIV Period
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
This circular well from the Louis XIV period is entirely carved in stone. The shaft of the well is composed of an eight pieces arrangement forming a "boudin" molding. The curbstone is marked by the patina of time and is thus irregular in shape. The base of the well is surmounted by a stone structure composed of two trapezoidal molded stones that hold a wooden winch and its chain. The whole base is topped by a one piece stone roof, the upper edge of which forms a four slope roof. While on one stone is engraved the date "1830", we believe that this stone well...

The shelves are punctuated by protruding ionic columns on rudent pedestals. Three doors give access to the room, two of which are trompe l'oeil, taking up the library decor...
