It’s quite an unusual example in that falls into the transitional style of Louis XV and XVI. The deep black stone has variegated white veining throughout, enhancing the beauty of the stone, which is magnified by the smoothly carved moldings. Most noticeably, the firebox opening has a luscious half-round border that is two inches thick.
