About the Item

A large scale original late 18th/early 19th century Georgian English York stone fireplace circa 1800. Carved by hand into York stone, this antique fire surround is a timeless addition to any interior traditional or modern, its simple lines and narrow depth giving it a simple, streamline architectural appeal to suit a wide variety of settings. The sandstone has a beautiful natural colour typical of the finely grained York variety, with light weathering from over more than 220 years of use that instils it with an appealing timeworn patina.
