Early 20th Century Japanese Stone Tōrō Lanterns with Candle Opening and Groove
About the Item
A pair of Japanese Toro stone lanterns from the early 20th century, with candle holders and wax area. Created in Japan during the early years of the 20th century, this pair of Toro stone lanterns features a linear silhouette accented by a central opening made to receive a candle. A grooved line on one of the sides is present to facilitate the evacuation of the wax. Originally used as an entrance to a Japanese garden and as guiding lights, the lanterns boast a nicely weathered patina revealing their age and life spent outdoors. They measure 11 inches wide x 11 inches deep x 41 inches high for the first one and 43 inches of height for the second one. With their clean lines and textured finish, this pair of Japanese Toro stone lanterns from the early 20th century will make for an elegant addition to any home, particularly placed at the entrance of a garden.
