17th Century French Hand-Carved Walnut Pillar Column Pedestal with Gilt Capital

About

Hand-carved from top to bottom from a single piece of walnut, this 17th century pillar or column features a Corinthian capital with vestiges of its original gilding. Above the beveled circular platform around the base of the pedestal are worn carvings of a floral motif. Standing at 65 inches in height with a 9 inch square top, this piece would be ideal as a plant Stand or for display of a sculpture. It also stands on its own as an architectural element, circa 1680.
