About the Item

very charming and high quality French late 19th century patinated Bronze and Ormolu statue titled Fête de la Petite Mère, signed by Émile Nestor Joseph Carlier. This wonderfully detailed statue is raised by a handsome mottled circular Ormolu base. The patinated Bronze statue is of a mother and daughter wearing classical attire out in the pasture picking flowers. The mother who is sitting on a rock wall is being embraced by her daughter who is handing her a bouquet of freshly cut flowers, as well as giving her her a kiss on the cheek. The less desired flowers are laying on the ground at their feet. All original warm and rich patina throughout. Émile Nestor Joseph Carlier (1849-1927) made his debut at the Salon of 1874 after studying at Cambrai, Valenciennes and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His work includes allegories, genre scenes and numerous busts, many in bronze and some animals. We know of Carlier some works published in spelter and others in bronze.
