About the Item

Danish hand-crafted art nouveau ash tray / bowl by Georg Jensen for P. Ipsens Enke in 1903. The art nuveau ash tray / bowl feature a well made lively crab and is in excellent condition. Georg Jensen (1866-1935) was a leading Danish silversmith and designer who founded d the famous silversmith and designer company "Georg Jensen A/S". Ipsens Enke (1843 - 1955) was a very succesfull manufactorer who especially during the first part of the 1900´s managed to attract several leading names in Danish art and design who created a huge variety of art nuveau inspired designs that along with the manufactores skilled potters and enabled P. Ipsens Enke to export their pieces to many countries. Over the years the manufactorers creations acquired 56 first-class international prizes and are represented in many public institutions among them Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the National Museum in Stockholm, the Los Angeles Museum in California, Cleveland and the Brooklyn Museums, the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the National Museum of Finland in Helsinki, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Les Amis des Musees de la ville de Mons, Brussels, the National Arts Club in New York and the Latvian National History Museum in Riga.
