Japanese Meiji Period Gold Cobalt Blue Porcelain Charger, circa 1880
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Exquisite Japanese late-19th century Imari Meiji period (circa 1880) signed porcelain charger in iron-red, cobalt blue and green. It showcases three panels with floral pattern on a dramatic gold background with shishi lions strolling. The panels are set against a stunning cobalt blue background adorned with generous gold details. The three small circles around the rim showcase plum blossom, pine and bamboo patterns, together they create a stunning auspicious “sho-Chiku-bai”. This stunning contrast creates a beautiful scene that invite the viewer to get closer to explore the details. The reverse side is decorated with underglaze cobalt blue hand-painting with the artist signature at the center.  The late father of the collector of this exquisite pair, who operated one of the leading kilns in the historic Imari-Arita region of Japan, travelled extensively to Europe in the early 1960s with a mission that he led, to purchase and bring back to Japan antique ceramics...

Ceramic Nippon Morimura Brothers Decorative Dish Vide Poche or Catchall, 1800s
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
A rare find, this decorative oval shaped Nippon catchall by Morimura Brothers is a fabulous example of early Japanese ceramics. A lovely ceramic dish for holding change or other items, it will be a fabulous chintz addition to any nightstand or foyer table. Highly decorated in bouquets of pink and yellow flowers, the center of the dish is the showstopper. A chinoiserie bird in flight with a pink breast and yellow, blue and green feathers takes center stage. Surrounding him are more bouquets of flowers and a single pink and blue bird. The rim of the dish is encircled with a blue ribbon adorned with intricately painted flowers such as white daisys and pink and yellow peonies. Two handles are at each end for carrying. The handles and the rim are both painted in gold. The back stamp at bottom reads in green, “M-in-Wreath, hand-painted ("M" stands for importer, Morimura Bros.); Nippon.” Mark used since 1911. The practice of painting of the word “Nippon” on ceramic bases began in 1891 in response to the U.S. McKinley Tariff Act, which forbade the import of items that weren’t “plainly marked...

A Massive Antique Japanese Arita Porcelain Plate by Kajiwara Kiln
Located in Atlanta, GA
On offer is a truly impressive blue and white porcelain plate of Hizen ware, from Arita in Japan, circa mid to late-19th century. The plate was made by Kajiwara Kikujiro (菊次郎, the second Kiku son) and/or Kajiwara Kikusaburo (菊三郎, the third Kiku son who died in 1883) of the Kajiware Family Kiln of in Arita. It was decorated in a superb design with blue under-glaze, clearly out of a hand of a master. In a Classic Japanese composition that was popular in the Meiji Period, the plate displays a riot of auspicious elements, arranged still in a surprisingly harmonious manner. Anchoring the center of the design is an eagle perched on the branch of a blooming cherry tree, its talons clenching the bark and its wings about to open. The motion of the its immediate taking off is palpable. The trunk and the branches of the old cherry tree provide a spacial frame for the arrangement of large peonies with foliage, bundles of chrysanthemums, Chinese bell...
