19th C. English Campaign Style Mahogany Travel Desk by G. Riddle, London

About the Item

A finely crafted travel desk by a noted British maker of boxes. The campaign style box has shaped brass corners, tabs, a lid plaque, center front escutcheon, and classic encased side handles. It opens to multiple compartments, first with blue velvet lined hinged surface and inside lid along with a lidded pen tray, two compartments (one with a lid with bone pull), and two bottles, the brass caps with the maker's name. The inner lid opens to black leather covered storage pockets. The velvet surface below opens to wooden box and straps for holding correspondence. At the back is a hidden compartment with three small drawers with bone pulls. The velvet surface brass escutcheon above opens up to a full blue velvet writing surface. Lacking key. There is a loose Bone Peg which is included. Measures: Length. 20", Depth 10 3/8", Height. 6 5/8" Condition: Please see all detail photos. Signs of age include age-related scratched and worn lid with some finish loss, some tarnished brass, section lifting tabs broken or missing, torn straps all mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is very good.
