A scarce two-hundred year old period Georgian Regency era (1795-1837) traveling pharmacist / physician apothecary box with beautifully aged patina. circa 1810 Born in England in the late 18th / early 19th century, showcasing the refined elegant warmth, sophistication, and functional utility synonymous with the Regency era, hand-crafted of warm rich solid mahogany wood, tall rectangular chest form with diamond shaped escutcheon, having a hinged top with inset gilt brass folding carry handle, opening to reveal divided interior with ten compartments, fitted with six glass vial bottles, over single drawer with quality hand-cut dovetail joinery, removable tray and six interior compartments, accompanied by hanging balance scale and an assortment of seven gilt metal weights. Dimensions: (approx) Box: 9" High, 10" Wide, 3.75" Deep; 4.8lbs total An apothecary box is a type of small industrial cupboard or trunk formerly used by pharmacists and doctors to store medicines, pharmacy / pharmaceutical supplies and medical tools in the many small compartments and drawers. Today, apothecary boxes are popular in homes as interesting antique decorative objects. Please note: The balance scale is a portable hand-held example, we just placed it hanging in front of the case for the photos / display. Condition: This box is a museum quality example, in great condition overall with nicely aged warm mellow mahogany glow and dark rich patina. Retaining original antique character marks and rustic charm throughout. Wear consistent with age and use, including key not functioning, loss to drawer pull. Contents would not have been included originally, mismatched collection of later tubes and weights. Overall a superb example that presents splendidly
