About the Item

A fabulous early 19th Century mahogany teapoy converted to a jewellery box. The stunning piece is of exceptional quality, finely hand carved with rich patination and fine grain. The well figured, moulded hinged top of rectangular form with canted corners opens upwards to reveal storage compartment lined with stunning purple velvet material above tapering body with brass escutcheon and key trimmed with gorgeous beaded row detail. Raised over a beautifully ring turned baluster column support above quatrefoil base with elegantly tapering and panelled outswept legs, terminating on finely cast brass decorative toe caps and casters. Mahogany Type: 'Santos Mahogany' Newer hinges to the lid and a few old repairs near the hinges to the rear.
