Antique 1815 Yellow Gold Pearl and Turquoise Pill Box

An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver combination scent bottle / pill box / vinaigrette; an addition to our diverse collectable silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver combination vinaigrette / pill box / scent bottle has an oval barrel shaped form. The body of the vessel is embellished with applied plain broad girdles replicating the details of the bilge and quarter hoops, which provide anchor points for the original link chain. The piece retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover to the scent bottle, conjoined to one of the aforementioned anchor points with a link chain. One end of the vessel is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover, which when opened reveals the vinaigrette with the original hinged grille and gilt interior. The gilded grille is ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pierced decorated bordered scroll and leaf design. The hallmarked hinged cover to the opposing end forms a pill box and opens to reveal the original gilt interior; this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions. The surface of the sides, base and cover of this impressive antique vinaigrette are encompassed with concentric bands of tooled decoration, accented with punched circular motifs. The underside of the antique box features an impressive chased tiered floral motif, accented with further tooled decoration. The body of this antique box is embellished with impressive niello enamel floral festoon panels, encompassed with fret band decorated borders. The box is fitted with an impressive hinged cover, embellished with further niello enamel decoration incorporating a vacant scroll shaped cartouche to the centre. This exceptional box has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 850 standard silver.
