18th Century Satinwood Domed Tea Caddy

About the Item

A Charming Late 18th Century Satinwood tea caddy, Having Attractive Conch Shell Inlaid Decoration To Front And Domed Top, Enclosing Double Lidded Interior. This attractive satinwood tea caddy, which dates to the sheraton period at end of the 18th century, remains in excellent condition and has clearly been well looked after over the years. The inlaid decoration is an excellent feature and really adds to the item, along with the choice of well figured satinwood veneers. It also boasts superior elegance to many others of the period due to the attractive domed top, which is an unusual feature. Tea was a precious commodity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and the purpose of a tea caddy was not just to preserve the and extend the life of the precious tea leaves, but also to enable the owner to lock away those aforementioned valuable tea leaves, keeping them safe from the house staffs potential wandering hands. This tea caddy comes with a fully functioning lock and key, plus has been cleaned and traditionally waxed polished by our highly skilled and well trained specialist antique furniture restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale.
