Antique English Regency Period and Styled Hand Painted Toleware Tea Caddy

About the Item

This antique English toleware tea caddy dates to circa 1820 and done in the period Regency style. This tea caddy is constructed of tin with a cast iron handled weight which functions as a manner to compress the tea. The body of the caddy is caldron shaped with a wide serpentine shaped rim which is replicated in the attached underplate. The caddy is decorated with very ornate hand-painted birds and flowers with gilt scrolled accents.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. The upper rim is slightly bent as is the finial. The solder both on the base and the underside of the top appear to have been added to many years ago.a Paint loss to the bottom as presented in the photos and consistent with age and use.
