About the Item
A Very Attractive And Unusual Late Regency Period, Early 19th Century, Figured Elm Curved Bombe Shape Tad Caddy, Having Boxwood Strung Decoration And Original Brasswear To Outside And Two Lidded Divisions To Interior.
A really quite beautiful looking Regency tea caddy which is an unusual shape and form. It is elegantly decorated with boxwood strung decoration and also boasts both original brass handles and original brass feet. The interior has been painted at some point for no obvious reason but the outside was left in its original colour and surface and not has a lovely warmth to the elm veneers.
Tea was an extremely precious commodity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and the purpose of a tea caddy was not just to preserve the and extend the life of the precious tea leaves, but also to enable the owner to lock away those aforementioned valuable tea leaves, keeping them safe from the house staffs potential wandering hands.
This tea caddy comes with a fully functioning lock and key, plus has been cleaned and traditionally waxed polished by our highly skilled and well trained specialist antique furniture restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale.
