About the Item

A very pleasing, late 19th century, double compartment tea caddy. This marvellous and rare tea caddy is in very good condition and the burl walnut has a truly warm, deep and rich patina. The combination of the majestic shape, bronze Gothic design decorations and the stunning patina makes this little gem an absolute joy to look at. Both lids are still there too and for those who did not yet know, one compartment would be used for keeping green tea and the other would be used for keeping black tea. The owners could then mix the two so that their tea would be exactly right for their taste. The inner lining was mostly made of tin foil and that was there so that the natural tea flavour would not 'blend' with the organic wood of the box. What makes this tea caddy extra special are the many bronze Gothic symbols. The ones in the shape of a cross with the trefoil symbol (for the trinity) atop, to us, are the most striking. This fine antique comes with the original brass hinges and a lock with key (however the lock is not working anymore). Nowadays this fine box can be used for all kinds of purposes, but on display as the beautiful and hand-crafted Gothic antique that she is, she will never fail to impress either. Mind you, perfect packing and free delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days is complimentary. No matter where you may live on our beautiful planet. Maximum width x depth x height when closed: 8.8 x 4.8 x 5.2 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by.
