Large Antique Italian Giltwood 8-Light Wall Candelabra, Circa 1750

About the Item

A beautiful display of flowers and foliage adorn this large, wall hanging giltwood eight-light candelabra. Hand-carved circa 1750 in Italy, the vegetation is accompanied by a twisting, vine-like arabesque. Additional motifs include attenuated leaves, floral swags, and leafy stalk above a scalloped shell at the base. The two tiers of sconces (four per tier) form an arching illumination pattern, emerging from curled leaves and volutes within the climbing flora. Each sconce has been embellished with fluting and protuberances that mimic the form of a flower. Interestingly, the entire candelabra has a slightly convex shape, with the outer sconces subtly set behind the interior ones. Our eight-light Italian candelabra has a lovely gilt finish with some areas exposing the brown wood beneath. Carved by a master level woodworker, the candelabra would instantly enhance a hallway, foyer, or living room.
