Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Bronze and Marble Candelabras
About the Item
An elegant true pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu, patinated bronze and white Carrara marble candelabras, signed Clodion. Each two arm candelabra is raised by fine topie shaped ormolu feet below a square white Carrara marble base. The bases display most decorative mottled and stepped designs with lovely fitted tied berried laurel mounts. At the center are charming jubilant patinated bronze cherubs each standing in front of a wonderfully executed rock where the signature is displayed. Each are seemingly holding richly chased ormolu arms with striking foliate designs, beautiful grape clusters and palmette candle cups in a rich satin and burnished finish. All original gilt and patina throughout.
Claude Michel Clodion, aka Clodion (December 20, 1738 – March 29, 1814), was a Master French sculptor in the Rococo style.
