About the Item

Pair of 19th Century Italian Painted Rococo Wall Mirrors with Candle Holders Possibly Venetian Hand-Carved & Painted Circa 19th Century or Older This exquisite pair of 19th-century or older Italian wall mirrors, possibly Venetian, showcases the refined elegance and craftsmanship of the Rococo period. Each mirror features a beautifully carved wood frame adorned with intricate acanthus leaves and floral motifs, hand-painted in soft tones of pale green, cream, and gold. The delicate color palette and natural patina developed over centuries add to the authentic antique charm. A basket of flowers design sits gracefully at the base of each mirror, enhancing the romantic Rococo aesthetic. Integrated twin candle holders extend from the lower portion, designed to reflect candlelight and create a warm, ambient glow—typical of Venetian mirrors intended to illuminate opulent interiors. Considering the refined carving, painted details, and Rococo-inspired floral and acanthus motifs, these mirrors strongly suggest Venetian origins. Venetian mirrors from the 18th/19th century often featured these design elements, known for their elegant and ornate designs that balanced sophistication with artistry. The integration of candle holders further supports this attribution, as such mirrors were typically designed to reflect candlelight, enhancing both the brightness and atmosphere of lavish rooms. The mirrors' ability to transform spaces with warmth and elegance highlights the luxurious lifestyle of the period, making them exceptional examples of Italian decorative art. Measuring 26 inches high by 13 inches wide and 5 inches deep, with mirrored surfaces approximately 8 by 14 inches, this pair is ideal for flanking a fireplace, accenting an entryway, or adding sophistication to any formal living space. Both mirrors are in excellent antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age, enhancing their character and historical significance. Rare and elegant, this pair offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of Italian decorative art history.

Pair of Giltwood Mirrors with Porcelain, Rococo, 18th Century
By Matthias Lock
Located in Madrid, ES
Pair of "cornucopias" with mirrors, nearly identical (except for details in the leaves of the frames), carved and gilded wood. Inside, the main mirror has moldings that draw curves and straight areas, volutes and other elements. The elaborate decoration of the wall mirrors is based on grotesques in the lower part, from which plant elements emerge that are prolonged, accompanied by hangings, towards the upper part by the sides, with openwork details. Above, the crests have circular spaces, flanked by birds perched with its wings partly extended, and surrounded by elaborate frames that, like the rest of the pieces, have architectural elements (scrolls, smooth oval mirrors), plant elements and shapes that remind Rococo rockery. Clearly, the examples are included within the Rococo, counting, even with the slight asymmetry presented by the decorative motifs of the same and that slight difference between both examples. It is possible to find similarities in the design of these cornucopias with different engravings and works by Matthias Lock...
