About the Item

A near pair of Clos Vougeot Lalique clear crystal hurricane-form candlesticks, each signed "Lalique France" to the base, one inscribed along the outer foot rim and the other at center. Each composed of a cylindrical blown-glass hurricane shade that fits into a distinctively modeled pedestal formed of overlapping clear crystal cabochons, recalling clustered berries or bubbling grapes. The textured stems rest atop circular clear crystal spreading feet. The shades detach from the pedestals and fit securely by means of finely finished internal mounts in blue and amber-toned crystal, respectively, creating a subtly mismatched but harmonious presentation. Measuring 13.125 inches and 12.5 inches in height, with top diameters of approximately 6.25 inches and base diameters of 5 inches, the two display slight variation in size—likely due to the hand-crafted nature of Lalique’s production. The refined sculptural stems represent Lalique’s continued commitment to René Lalique’s Art Deco legacy, while their monumental scale and clean proportions suggest mid-to-late 20th century production, when Lalique reinterpreted earlier motifs in dramatic forms for contemporary interiors.
