About the Item

Barometro a stecca in legno ebanizzato, manifattura del Nord Italia dei primi del XIX sec., alloggiato in una elegante teca realizzata su misura in vetro e legno ebanizzato con motivi decorativi. Barometro con serbatoio in legno ebanizzato completo di galleggiante in osso marino indicante il corretto livello del mercurio, regolato dalla vite di settaggio sottostante al serbatoio. Il barometro è inoltre completo di nonio di lettura a cremagliera per la verifica della variazione della pressione atmosferica, di igrometro posto in alto e di due grandi termometri a mercurio e ad alcool per comparazione algebrica della temperatura. Misure barometro Altezza cm 120 – inch 47.5, larghezza cm 18,3 –inch 7.2 profondità/spessore cm 8 – inch 3.2. Misure teca altezza cm 148 – inch58.2, larghezza cm 24 – inch 9.5, profondità cm 11,2 – inch 4.3 Ottimo stato perfettamente funzionante. Il barometro è integro, originale e completo in tutte le sue parti. Il tubo barometrico e il serbatoio sono stati svuotati dal mercurio per sicurezza durante il trasporto onde evitare fuoriuscite di mercurio, in quanto il barometro dovrebbe viaggiare sempre in posizione verticale, cosa praticmente imposssibile. Il mercurio per il riempimento verrà consegnato insieme al barometro in un apposito contenitore sigillato. Fin dall’antichità l’uomo, come agricoltore e navigatore, ha osservato e tentato di prevedere l’andamento del clima. Lo studio scientifico dei mutamenti che avvengono nell’atmosfera ebbe inizio alla metà del XVII secolo, in relazione con gli esperimenti tendenti a dimostrare l’esistenza del vuoto, che gli antichi filosofi negavano poiché “la natura aborre il vuoto!”. Se si riempie d’acqua un lungo tubo e lo si pone capovolto in un secchio con acqua, la colonna di liquido scenderà finché il suo peso non sarà controbilanciato dalla pressione dell’aria sulla superficie dell’acqua contenuta nel secchio: a un certo punto nell’estremità superiore e chiusa del tubo ci sarà il vuoto. Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), matematico e fisico, discepolo di Galileo, fu il primo, nel 1643 a costruire uno strumento in grado di rilevare i cambiamenti della pressione dell’aria. Egli descrisse il suo esperimento frutto della scoperta che le variazioni della pressione atmosferica sono legate ai cambiamenti del tempo atmosferico.
