French 18th Century Coromandel and Ormolu Grandfather Clock

About the Item

A magnificent large scale French 18th century Coromandel and ormolu Grandfather Clock, by André Furet. This very unique and high quality clock is raised by rectangular base with a lightly bombé front and impressive large acanthus leaf corner ormolu mounts in a striking satin and burnished finish. Leading up the clock are impressive scrolled ormolu mounts with detailed charming cherubs centering a handsome and richly chased lion's head. The front door is decorated with exquisite Coromandel designs depicting a charming boat, houses and a bridge, all amidst beautiful scenery repeated at the sides. The door opens at a unique upwards angle to reveal the finished tulipwood inside and pendulum. Above a superb acanthus leaf designed ormolu band is the handsome dial with pierced ormolu hands including the rare presence of a second hand on a black and gilt background. At each side are impressive ormolu mounts of a wonderfully chased man and a woman. Centered at the top is a sensational female mask below the most impressive and wonderfully executed Diana The Huntress top crown, seated with her bow and arrow. Impressive details and wonderful proportions throughout. All original gilt. Our silhouette is 6 feet tall.
