About the Item

A highly unusual 19th Century Egyptian Revival Mantel Clock. Wonderful design architectural clock case with pagoda top, made of high quality red marble and black slate, all exquisitely decorated with bronze mouldings and hieroglyphics depicting Egyptian birds and the God "Ra" - an ancient Egyptian dity of the Sun. Highly unusual piece that would be nearly impossible to find again. Probably made and design as a one off gift rather than being mass produced. The clock is bearing a plaque: "Presented by The Scholars of Stirling High School To Duncan Macdougal Esq Master of Mathematical Department 24th March 1882" Dimensions: High: 34.5 cm Depth: 16 cm Length: 28.5 cm

A French Egyptian Revival mantel clock, dating to the mid-19th century, is made of polished black marble and patinated bronze. Surmounted by the priestess Isis cast from bronze, adorned with a gilt headband and intricately tooled clothing, the clock demonstrates remarkable attention to detail. The clock case has a complex architectural design, flanked on each side by bronze Egyptian figures holding tablets, symbolizing the wisdom and power of ancient Egypt. Standing at a height of approximately 65cm, the clock case is embellished with applied figures and mask heads, adding depth and complexity to the overall design.
