French Restauration Period Mahogany and Gilt Bronze Lyre Clock

About the Item

A high quality Restauration period mahogany and gilt bronze lyre mantel (fireplace) clock in the shape of a lyre. The mahogany case is highly decorated in gilded bronze; the lyre sits on a rectangular base over a large gilt bronze border, the base has four lions paw feet. The original silk string suspension movement rings the hours and halves on a bell, the gilt pendulum shows a winged cupid in the clouds. The dial is signed ‘Lamy a Paris’, an important clock making dynasty of the late 18th and early 19th century.
