About the Item

A very large and superb antique French Baroque clock set, beautifully made in gilt bronze, circa 1880. It is of architectural form with bold scrolls and pillars incorporating mythical creatures. To the front is Minerva with spear. The clock stands on an integral base with stylised shields forming the feet. Candelabra are conforming in style with four branches. The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with a bronze centre and original blued steel hands. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock running Condition of the case is excellent with a clean and bright finish protected by lacquer. There is some very minor wear and tarnish. The dial has some light hairlines near the four o'clock. Candelabra arms are slightly distorted and some of the decorative nuts holding the arms are replacements. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required. Repaired: Our clock maker has fully overhauled and tested the movement. Wear consistent with age and use. Condition of the case is excellent with a clean and bright finish protected by lacquer. There is some very minor wear and tarnish. The dial has some light hairlines near the four o'clock. Candelabra arms are slightly distorted.
