Rare Mid-19th Century Alabaster Conical Clock.

About the Item

A beautiful mid-19th century French conical clock with a patinated metal figure of Jason holding the golden fleece. The decorative alabaster case is adorned with gilt bronze mounts and supports a large patinated figure of Jason. The pendulum is suspended by a thread from above and engages the spinning detent below. It has an eight-day time and strike movement and an engine-turned gilt bronze dial. Male figures on conical clocks are particularly rare. This figure of Jason carrying the golden fleece is fantastic quality. This piece was originally restored by John B. McLemore and was part of the same collection that is illustrated in the book 'S-Town Exquisite Clocks'.
