The eight-day twin-train movement with circular plates and lateral lever escapement on a gilt platform, with cut bimetallic compensation balance, flat balance spring and index regulator, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell. The dial having twin revolving chapter rings with white enamel cartouches with Roman numerals on a revolving ring, with a revolving minute ring above with Arabic numerals, the time indicated by Cupid pointing with an arrow. The clock is designed about the motif of the lyre—a popular form for Louis XVI style clocks. The clock features a stepped plinth-form base, raised on four bun feet. The base supports the clock case itself, which is wrought to resemble a lyre: the dial is set into the body of the lyre, while the twin lyre arms spring from the shoulders of the case. The arms are joined above by a garland held by scrolled swan’s head finials, between which is situated an Apollo sunburst mask. A rare French Gothic style mantel clock with brass case inset with decorative silvered panels profusely decorated in relief, surmounted to the corners by four brass and silvered orbs and a central frieze of 23 brass finials. Mounted on silvered ball feet, Late 19th century. The white ceramic dial with decorative brass bezel and visible escapement. There is one small hairline crack to the dial, at the six o'clock position, which can be seen in the images. The high quality French two train movement is by Japy Frères and bears the makers medaille de bronze...
