About the Item
Hand carved, solid walnut antique barometer with maker's mark.
This rare Black Forest barometer depicting an incredibly detailed and finest quality also has the most beautiful patina. All hand carved out of one piece of solid walnut and with the finest of details, we feel this remarkable antique is of Swiss origin. Anyone who has ever walked alongside and between the ferns and Edelweiss plants in the mountains of Switzerland understands exactly where the artist got his inspiration from. These particular ferns and Edelweiss plants with their amazing depth and details are among the best we have ever seen and we don't see one single restauration anywhere. On the zinc back plate is the monogram HF or H&F with an eagle motif on top. Unfortunately we don't know who this very skilled maker was, but he must have been right up there with the best. Apart from a few truly minor imperfections, this rare and highly decorative antique is in excellent condition. The overall design, its good size and the striking details in all of the carved elements make it a real eyecatcher and perfect for Black Forest enthousiasts.
