Patek Philippe Cartel Clock

About the Item

The famed Patek Philippe crafted this spectacular gilt bronze cartel clock. The case is exuberantly embellished in the Louis XV style with scrolling foliate work and an argyle-patterned screen punctuated with rosettes. The decorative screen conceals a panel of solar cells on the front of the timepiece. These photoelectric cells, along with a backup lithium battery, power the caliber 17-250 mechanical movement. It tells the time on a white enamel dial with both Roman and Arabic numerals and ornate brass hands. The timepiece comes complete with its original fitted Patek Philippe box. Overall, this clock displays the lasting quality and style of this legendary Swiss firm. Patek Philippe is one of the world’s premier luxury brands and is widely regarded as the world's most prestigious watchmaker. Founded in 1851 by Polish watchmaker Antoni Patek and French watchmaker Adrien Philippe, the company quickly acquired an excellent reputation for its precision watches. Credited with popularizing the perpetual calendar, split-seconds hand, chronograph, and minute repeater in watches, Patek's client list included the likes of Queen Victoria, King Victor Emanuel III of Italy, King Christian IX of Denmark, Pope Pius IX and Albert Einstein. This cartel clock exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship that truly sets apart Patek creations. Marked “Patek Philippe / Geneve” on the dial. Case numbered “2076” and movement numbered “2739.” Circa 1965 Measures: 14" high x 8 1/4" wide x 3 7/8" deep.

Rosewood Grandfather Clock
Located in New Orleans, LA
This magnificent English longcase, or grandfather, clock boasts a fine rosewood case inlaid with an intricate, balanced design. The face is crafted of chased silver in a foliate motif with fully hallmarked numerals by London silversmith James Stedstone Gouldsmith. The clock is a three-train movement run by three silver-plated weights and a mercury pendulum. The three weights power the time, the hour chime and the quarter-hour chime, and the clock strikes on nine tubular bells with a choice of either Whittington or Westminster chimes. Known commonly as “grandfather” clocks, it was not until the late 19th century that longcase clocks garnered this name. According to the origin tale, two brothers named Jenkins owned the George Hotel...
