Rare & Large All Handcrafted Antique Gothic Revival Solid Oak Wall Clock ca 1900

About the Item

Stunning clock for the collectors of rare and truly stylish Gothic antiques. Gothic wall clocks are a rare find and this more than three feet tall specimen is one of the tallest and the most elaborate we have seen to date. All handcrafted and hand carved out of solid oak, this turn of the century antique clock in a Gothic castle-like design is very ornate. It comes with an abundance of perfectly hand-sawn and hand carved Gothic elements and the striking patina of this work of beauty makes it even more impressive and medieval looking. The church window-like side panels, the various hand-painted coats of arms, the castle towers front with its many windows and also the roof with the hand painted, diamond shape, slate tiles are just some of the Gothic elements that together paint the picture of this rare work of time telling art. It must have taken one very skilled artisan weeks if not months to create this incredibly detailed and tall Gothic wall clock. This one of a kind antique comes with all the original glass panels and only in the bottom right corner is a small break in the glass (see image 19). Inside, on a bronze bracket rests the original and perfect working, brass, eight day clock mechanism with a beautiful dial face and gilt pendulum. Apart from some minor dents to the brass outside of the dial face (as shown in some of our images) the dial face and pendulum are in very good condition and a joy to behold. This clock runs smoothly with a low-noise tic-toc and it strikes a warm gong sound on the whole and once on the half hours. The original antique key for winding both the clock and striking mechanism also is included. This unique and impressive Gothic clock is great value for money.
