An Exceptionally fine Quality English Well Figured Solid Burr Walnut Ladies or Gents Travelling Writing Slope of outstanding quality and quite large proportions. Third quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
The hinged lid opening to reveal an original fitted interior with a later rich olive green leather writing area, to include three secret drawers underneath, this is a rare and unusual much sought after feature, see image. The rectangular flat top lid with central brass inlaid plaque, the top and side edges of the hinged lid with quadrant polished brass mouldings, the main carcass with similar detailing,
Condition: Professionally restored retaining its wonderful rich honey colour, with a replaced leather in writing area to include a gold leaf decorative border which is nicely done. Box closes firmly with no gaps. Lock and key are present and are working, crystal ink bottle is of a later period, nice original firm hinges.
