Antique Regency Brass Inlaid Mahogany Traveling Desk Wooden Writing Slope Box
About the Item
An exceptionally fine quality English well figured Mahogany ladies or gents travelling writing slope of outstanding quality, with lavish brass inlay decoration, twin polished brass carry handles, early 19th century, complete with original fitted interior, to include three secret drawers.
The hinged lid opening to reveal a fitted interior with its original rich dark red leather writing area, one half of which can be locked using the main outside key, this is a rare and unusual feature, see image. The rectangular flat top lid with a central decorative brass inlaid plaque, the top and side edges of the hinged lid with quadrant mouldings, the main carcass with similar detailing,
Condition: Professionally restored with its original gold leaf tooled burgundy leather inside which is split at folding area, our restorers decided to leave untouched and retain its character. Lock is present and working, lacking key. Two crystal ink bottles of a later period.
