About the Item

Art Deco Panther circa 1930. Silver-plated bronze subject on a black and white marble base. Signed on the marble V. Demanet. In perfect condition. Total height: 17 cm Length: 40 cm Width: 16 cm Weight: 11 Kg Victor Demanet is a Belgian sculptor and medallist. He settled in Paris, where he worked as an antique dealer. Inspired by his Parisian life, he returned to Belgium, lived in Namur and studied in Brussels, where he resumed his work as a sculptor at the Beaux-Arts in Namur before serving in the army. In 1926, he settled permanently in Brussels. One of his most famous sculptures is the statue of the Belgian King Leopold II in Namur. It represents the Belgian king standing wearing a long coat and looking into the distance. This splendid bronze sculpture can still be seen today at Place Wiertz in Namur. Victor Demanet mainly produced large-scale sculptures showing physical work and powerful movement. From 1926, he began producing medals. More than 100 medals were then produced for public and private patrons, and exhibited internationally. In 1937, Demanet was named Knight, in 1961 Officer of the Order of Leopold and in 1947 Knight of the Legion of Honor. He regularly participated in the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member.
