French Art Deco couple of does by Charles LEMANCEAU at Saint-Clément's for Le Bon Marché, France, ca.1925. Illustrated in the Saint-Clément's catalog, 1925, page #1 under the number #1. Crackle glaze ceramic. Width: 14"(35.5cm), Height: 8.9"(22.6cm), Depth: 3.9"(10cm). Signed "Lemanceau" on the base (see photo). IAlso ilustrated in Craquelés, les animaux en céramique 1920-1940, Patrick Malaureille, Massin Editeur, Paris, 1993, page #32.
Born in 1905 in Paris. Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris after school. Laureate of Ecole Estienne, Ecole Boulle and Ecole des Arts appliques.
In 1923, he works for Primavera. In 1925, he exhibits in the Salon d'Automne with his fellows : Eugene Printz, Louis Sognot, Van Dongen, Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dunand, Henri Matisse, Le Corbusier, Jules Leleu, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Fernand Leger and Maurice Utrillo. In this period, he works for Saint-Clement and Dim. From 1930, for Maurice Dufrene, Primavera and Sainte-Radegonde.
Specialist of animal sculptures, he is one of the most important sculptors in the French Art Deco period.
