About the Item

George Sellers is a classically-trained artist who studied sculpture in Italy. George had also been doing the window art for years in New York at luxury jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels, working with the famous Douglas Little. This Dallas-based sculptor, who started his career apprenticing with a master stone carver in Italy, works almost exclusively with the underappreciated medium of plaster. “We study the frescoes and paintings on ceilings, but look right past the incredible moldings,” says Sellers. “I have trained and studied my entire career to develop and perfect the techniques and craftsmanship required to visually express my respect for all living things,” says George. “I am endlessly intrigued by the complex structure of the human hand. I am equally captivated by the sinuous architecture of the snake and the complex mechanics of an insect wing. Mystery and beauty exist in all forms of life, be it human, animal, insect, or flora. I am honored to be able to present sculptural forms that express the dignity and grace of the natural world in which we all exist.”

Walking Floor Lamp Polished or Matte Brass Gold Lighting Customizable
By Zhipeng Tan
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
The walking floor lamp can also be used as a sculpture or an accent piece in the interior. It is handmade by renowned Chinese artist Zhipeng Tan and can be customized in size and color. Keyword: Floor lamp, lighting, sculpture About the artist: Since graduating with an Industrial design degree from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Zhipeng Tan has focused on the ancient technique of lost-wax casting. Through this foundry process, rich in heritage and tradition, Tan explores his interest in organic forms. Often inspired by his environmental surroundings such as water and plants, he explores anthropomorphic themes, as well. Though trained as an Industrial designer, he has become an accomplished self-taught sculptor, eagerly exploring the elastic and permeable boundaries between art and design and finding a harmonious fusion of sculpture and furniture, provocative objects of both beauty and utility. In spite of his rigorous training in computer modeling, Tan develops all of his concepts exclusively with hand drawing, preferring the direct connection to his work that sketching provides. As he likes to say, “Every line in the artwork is touched by me.” Most of his work is hand-sculpted in clay and the final work is achieved through casting, hammering, welding and polishing. He has chosen brass as his preferred medium in part because of its connection to historical tradition, but most especially because of its warm color, rich luster and versatility. Though from his early work, one may sense the influence of Joan Miró, Henry Moore and Constantin Brancusi and in his more recent pieces there is a nod to the Post-Pop sensibilities of Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami, the work of Zhipeng Tan is thoroughly original, an expression of his exuberance and imagination. In all of his work, one may see an exploration of our fundamental humanity and a desire to discover worlds within worlds. From the 33 Step Chair...

Ligne Light 1, by Sabine Marcelis, Blown Glass, Neon Light, Glass Table Lamp
By Sabine Marcelis
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
The Ligne sculptures were made during a summer artist residency at Pilchuck school of glass. As with many of Sabine Marcelis's explorations with light, these objects were born from a curiosity to explore how a material volume can interact with a single line of light and in this case also how two very different ways of working with glass can elevate eachother. Together with talented neon benders, Sabine Marcelis hand-bent each of the neon lights to wrap around the various glass volumes, accentuating their mass and in turn, the glass volumes filtering the light. Dutch-Kiwi designer Sabine Marcelis’s work is at the forefront of contemporary material innovation in product and installation design. She works with glass manufacturers and more, forging partnerships across her industry to bring her ambitiously experimental projects to fruition. Marcelis’s focus is on allowing happenstance sensory experiences to emerge by juxtaposing combinations of unlikely materials and colors. She was educated at the Design Academy Eindhoven and since founding her eponymous studio in 2011 in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, she has built a remarkable roster of clients in fashion, architecture and art. She has created signature pieces for the likes of Rem Koolhaas’s architecture firm OMA, high-fashion labels Fendi and Isabel Marant and luxury beauty brand Aesop. She has also exhibited at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and won Wallpaper* magazine’s Designer of the Year award for 2020. Marcelis was invited to create a sculptural intervention for the interiors of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich’s iconic Barcelona Pavilion, which saw the debut of the pair’s timeless Barcelona chair in 1929. For her “No Fear of Glass” exhibition, the designer subverted the original request made to van der Rohe to “not use too much glass” by designing chaise longues, pillar lights...
