About the Item

Satin crystal vase by Lalique, Model "Sylvie," depicting two intertwined doves, made in the 1980s Ø cm 17 Ø cm 10 h cm 20 Lalique Crystals were the brainchild of René Lalique, a French jeweler and glassmaker. Throughout his career he worked with several major brands, such as Cartier and Boucheron, but his first real research on glass occurred in 1890 when he made elements for jewelry, also studying the techniques of enameling and engraving. In 1921 he founded his glassworks in Alsace, which is still the only Lalique factory in the world. In the mid-1920s, the arrival of Art Deco marked the peak of his career, which, thanks in part to his techniques, created a style expressed in the contrast between transparent and opaque glass. The crystals feature designs inspired by three themes dear to René: women, flora and fauna. The company he founded continues long tradition by still dealing in jewelry, perfumes, interior decoration and artistic glass making. It is still today a symbolic expression of French luxury, for the splendor of the jewelry, the wonder of transparency the brilliance of crystal.
