Large and Hand Carved Black Forest Barometer & Thermometer with Deer Sculptures

About the Item

Finest quality and all hand carved Schwarzwald barometer from the Arts & Crafts era. If you are looking for a remarkable antique to grace your study, lodge or hunting cabin then this early 20th century work of art could be flying your way soon. All hand-carved out of solid nutwood this barometer was made in the Black Forest region of pre world war I Germany or just across the border in Switzerland. The scrolling branch patterns with their wonderful oak leafs and acorns at the bottom form the base of this barometer. Higher up, come the striking pine trees and the group of deer with the stag in the centre. Judging from his posture, something clearly caught his attention, but the females are calmly feeding themselves. From the top of the pine trees and going up this barometer comes the perfect condition and also fine working thermometer. The carving around this thermometer too is of exceptional quality and beauty. Atop this antique is an antler trophy wall plaque and if you look closely then you can see there is one tip of the antler (on the left) missing. Because of the beauty and the sheer amount of details of the carvings, most people won't even notice, but we have to mention it. Obviously this barometer is not about one imperfection, this antique is about the amazing and elaborate details and how this kind of amazing workmanship has become more and more rare to find. In this day and age nothing even comes close and if you have an eye for quality and real beauty then this stunning barometer will lift your spirit every time you look at it, no matter what the weather is like.
