French Bronze Sculpture “Monarque” Race Horse Stallion by Pierre Lenordez
Located in Shippensburg, PA
PIERRE LENORDEZ French, 1815-1892 "Monarque" Patinated sand-cast bronze Signed in cast "P. Lenordez" foundry inscription for Duplan et Salles cast circa 1870 Item # 305BHE24A An unusually fine example of Lenordez's work, he modeled Monarque with a surface ahead of its time through a marriage of exacting technical representation of the proud stallion and a modernistic mottled texturing of the body that is tangible. The viewer can almost feel the stylus in the artist's hand as it feverishly works the body to push and shape the wax, scuffing and scraping the skin of the horse in a chaotic fervor. This has been captured with utmost integrity by the renowned house of Duplan et Salles, the quality of the sand-casting simply above reproach with crisp replication of the artist's intent evident in every quarter. Typical of Lenordez, the towel tossed on the ground records the important details on the subject, noting: "Monarque!! né en 1852, par the Baron the Emperor ou Sting Poetess par Royal oak vainqueur de 21 prix...

French Modernism Bronze Sculpture “Greyhound & Cat” by Ary Bitter & Susse
Located in Shippensburg, PA
ARY JEAN LÉON BITTER French, 1883-1973 The Greyhound and The Cat Lost-wax cast and patinated bronze signed in base "ary Bitter" and sealed with Susse cachet, signed in cast "cire purdue", signed "Susse Frs. Ets. Paris" Item # 304LJP22P A very scarce example of Bitter's work, this fluid and beautifully captured model depicts of a showdown between a greyhound and a household cat. The freshness of the mold it was captured from is self-evident with a nearly total absence of any notable cold-tooling throughout the surfaces. The signature is sharp to the touch, raised as if Bitter's stylus has only just shaped the wax of the model it was cast from. The untouched original surface patina is brilliant with a chaotic interplay of colors from vivid verdigris to autumnal browns and oranges. Edited by the house of Susse and cast with the lost-wax method. Ary Jean Léon Bitter Born in Marseilles, France on May 29th of 1883, Ary Jean Léon Bitter began his studies under the guidance of Emile Aldebert...

Loet Vanderveen Bronze Artistic Patina Cheetah Sculpture
Located in Atlanta, GA
A graceful bronze sculpture of a cheetah by Loet Vanderveen. The bronze sculpture has an artistic patina applied to the body and a polished head. Who was Loet Vanderveen (1921 - 2015)? According to the Native Visions website, "Born in Rotterdam, Holland Loet Vanderveen's childhood home was close to the zoo. It was during this period in life that he developed his love for animals. At night he would listen to the sound of the animals in the zoo, and fantasize about African safaris... fantasies which were eventually realized. During the WWII bombardment of Rotterdam the animals were destroyed as well as his home. These events led Vanderveen to a new phase in his life. He escaped occupied Holland for England, and was decorated for valor by Queen Wilhelmia. He served in the R.A.F. during the war. After WWII, Vanderveen lived in Zurich, London and New York working as a fashion designer. Creatively unsatisfied with his profession he began private ceramic studies with the head of the Far Eastern department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (Fong Chao). He mastered Chinese...
