Two Chinese Wood Lion Foo Dogs Incense Holder

About the Item

Two Chinese wood Foo Dogs Incense holder burners. Featuring a pair of highly detailed lion foo dogs, one male and one female which were thought to protect the home from harmful spiritual influences and harmful people that might be a threat. The Foo Dogs are mystical creatures known as Chinese Imperial guardian lions. They are believed to have powerful mystic protective powers and traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces and Asian homes. The representation of the Foo dogs in incense burner is typical of how the lion was viewed in pre-modern China. The animal was believed to have powerful mythic protective properties. Incense in China is traditionally used in a wide range of cultural activities including religious ceremonies, ancestor veneration, traditional medicine, and in daily life. The top of the ball open to receive the incense, the scent will go through the open mouth of the lion foo dogs. Very unique finely hand carved Chinese incense holder set of foo dogs.
