17th Century Thai Lacquered Bronze Head Of The Buddha

About the Item

A Thai bronze head of Buddha, Ayutthaya period, late 16th-early 17th century. The serene face flanked by long ear lobes slightly flared at the tips, the eyes downcast beneath smoothly sloping brows meeting the ridge of the nose and echoed by the hairline, the hair arranged in snail shell curls and the ushnisha surmounted by a tall chintamani set ablaze. With a black lacquer patina. Mounted on a walnut base. A great piece to have in the house as a reminder to make time for meditation and mindfulness, as well as a beautiful piece of art. 9 inches high 3 wide 3 deep.

A gorgeous and refined Burmese crowned and adorned seated bronze Buddha, Kingdom of Arakan, Mrauk-U period, 17th century. The Buddha is portrayed seated in vajrasana upon a high double lotus pedestal, hands in dhyana mudra, a ritual vessel resting in his upturned palms. He is festooned with jewelry – armlets, bracelets, anklets, a double necklace, a jeweled belt, and large earrings.
