About the Item
An Amedeo Modigliani-inspired terra cotta bust featuring two Minimalist figures. Wonderful rust finish over entire surface; illegibly signed to base. Large-scale piece that stands 15"H, creating a dramatic centerpiece, yet also allowing the piece to work well in a collection.
Hefty, thick, hand-sculpted terra cotta construction and extremely stable stance.
The history of two figures dates to ancient Egypt, with expression of familial bonds to symbolic representations of concepts like friendship and love in Modern art, and the exploration of the complex duality of the human psyche. The interaction, style, and symbolism of the figures convey the statue's specific meaning, such as depicting unity, tension, or a particular relationship. We love the ambiguity of this piece and the nuanced expressions of the figures.

Two Antique Niger Bura Peoples Fired Clay Heads on Stands
Located in Morristown, NJ
Bura fired clay heads, possibly 3rd-10th c. CE, Niger, Bura peoples. These are very expressive examples on custom mounts, the larger with manganese deposits.
Between the 3rd and 10th centuries, the dead were laid to rest at a site in present-day Niger downstream from the Inland Niger delta. The burial ground’s density and expanse suggest a veritable city of the departed. Several hundred individual graves were marked by upturned pottery urns, some of which were cylinders topped by figurative imagery. The most elaborate of these were full-bodied equestrians, while the most basic were highly abstract, independent heads.
Note: These figures will be professionally packed by a specialist shipper at the sellers expense.

W.P.A. Style Terracotta Figure's Study attributed to Frank Dobson
By Frank Dobson

W.P.A. Style Terracotta Figure's Study attributed to Frank Dobson. Amazing sculpture... unsigned but please feel free to research Dobson's terracotta studysmm
Dobson, Frank (1886–1963). British sculptor, born in London, the son of an illustrator of the same name. From 1902 to 1904 he worked as an assistant to William Reynolds-Stephens. He then spent two years in Cornwall, earning his living with landscape watercolours, before winning a scholarship to Hospitalfield Art Institute, Arbroath, where he studied 1906–10.
After returning to London, he continued his studies at the City and Guilds School, Kennington, then again lived in Cornwall, where he shared a studio with Cedric Morris in Newlyn. His early work consisted mainly of paintings, the few surviving examples showing how impressed he was by Roger Fry’s Post-Impressionist exhibitions (Stanhope Forbes, whom Dobson met in Newlyn, had been shocked by his modernism). He made his first carving in 1913, but his first one-man exhibition—at the Chenil Gallery, London, in 1914—consisted of paintings and drawings. After the First World War (when he served in France with the Artists’ Rifles...
