Spring marble bust, first half of the 19th century

About the Item

Female bust of maiden with bouquet of roses ( Spring). The maiden is portrayed with a slight smile and a deep, attentive gaze, combed with a low chignon and hair lightly held back by a sash ( according to the fashion of the early 20th century). The robe with embroidered border wraps the maiden, leaving one breast partially uncovered while a veil passed over the shoulders knots under the chest holding a bouquet of roses. The hairstyle and dress, a simple knotted veil, of the statue are reminiscent of the Roman-style depictions that were all the rage from the late 18th century until almost the mid-19th century. The influence of Canova models, can be seen not only in the old-fashioned depiction, but also in the light yet stern expression of the face. Of excellent quality also appears the execution of the object, which from the mastery of the use of drills and chisels obtains virtuosity not only in the eyes and flowers, but also in the plasticity of the leaning of the garments.
